چکیده

We report the transfer of cellulose synthesis genes (acsABDC) from the heterotropic alpha proteobacterium, Gluconacetobacter xylinus strain ATCC 53582 to a photosynthetic microbe (Synechococcus leopoliensis strain UTCC 100). These genes were functionally expressed in this cyanobacterium, resulting in the production of non-crystalline cellulose. Although the cellulose lacks the structural integrity of the product synthesized by G. xylinus, the non-crystalline nature of the cyanobacterial cellulose makes it an ideal potential feedstock for biofuel production.

Complete Genome Sequence of Gluconacetobacter hansenii Strain NQ5 (ATCC 53582), an Efficient Producer of Bacterial Cellulose

This study reports the release of the complete nucleotide sequence of Gluconacetobacter hansenii strain NQ5 (ATCC 53582). This strain was isolated by R. Malcolm Brown, Jr. in a sugar mill in North Queensland, Australia, and is an efficient producer of bacterial cellulose. The elucidation of the genome will contribute to the study of the molecular mechanisms necessary for cellulose biosynthesis.

Increased cellulose production by heterologous expression of cellulose synthase genes in a filamentous heterocystous cyanobacterium with a modification in photosynthesis performance and growth ability

Cellulose and sugar from microalgae can be utilized for the production of biofuel ethanol. Increasing cellulose and sugar synthesis capacity is key for high yield production of this biofuel. To enhance cellulose production, we transferred acsAB, responsible for cellulose synthesis in bacterium Acetobacter xylinum, into the cyanobacterium, Anabaena sp. strain PCC7120, by conjugation. PCR confirm...
